Nico DEWACHTERE is chief operating officer in ArcelorMittal Europe Long Products since 2023.

Nico joined the group in 1998, as a specialist in process models at ArcelorMittal Gent. In 2003, he became support manager process, before his promotion to production manager hot strip mill, Gent. In 2008, Nico joined the progress academy, to prepare the maintenance transformation project at site level. In 2009, he was promoted head of the hot strip mill, Gent, then head of the cold rolling works, Gent. From 2017 to 2019, Nico was chief operating officer finishing, ArcelorMittal Bremen, prior to his appointment as chief operating officer finishing and plant director Cluster Eisenhüttenstadt in May 2019. In his most recent role, since February 2021, Nico has been chief operating officer finishing in ArcelorMittal Europe Flat Products Cluster Gent-Liège.

Nico is a graduate in chemical engineering, and he holds a PhD in chemical engineering from the University of Gent, Belgium.
